Since I started High School, a passion for creating props was born.
We had a Día de Muertos celebration where I taught my classmates and teachers how to build a Quetzalcóatl mask with cardboard.
After that, I looked forward to October's return since Halloween/Día de Muertos was an opportunity to improve my skills. I stopped buying spooky decor and made my own instead.
It is not a skill, but I wanted to add it to this section since it is something that has a lot of impact on my life.
Sadly, here in Mexico, people do not care much about animals. There are plenty of dogs wandering the streets, suffering abuse and hunger. We hate this situation, so we started a protocol to find them a loving and caring home.
Besides that, my mother taught me to build dog houses with tetra-pack containers. We might not be able to rescue them all, but while they are on the streets, we want them to be safe.
Alternative clothing stores are difficult to find around here, so I decided to start creating my own.
I enjoy sewing and painting my jeans, jackets, and even boots to make them match my outfit.
My first time coding was in elementary, creating simple games using Scratch.
Then, in secondary school, I entered a workshop that lasted three years. There, I learned to use Adobe Dreamweaver, HTML, and CSS.
Years later, BIY offered me an internship, and I coded my first personal website. Since then, I have been coding as a hobby.
This one is more a self-taught skill. In my free time, I try to recreate the makeup of famous goth rockstars or resemble some spooky creature. Painting a skull on my face is what I enjoy the most.
I'm looking forward to learning more about makeup and fx.
I've always enjoyed dressing up for costume parties or Trick or Treating. Nevertheless, one issue I constantly encounter is that it's difficult to find costumes that resemble the characters I want.
Thanks to that, I decided to put my creativity into action and find a way to bring them to life. .
Creating Graphics in PowerPoint
Build It Yourself taught me to make the most out of PowerPoint.
That involves:
Drawing
What I love about this skill is that I can draw characters from my roleplays or design a costume idea. I'm still looking for my style and need to improve in some aspects, but I think that practice is the key.
Graffiti
My walls looked a bit plain, so I added my essence through graffiti art. I used cardboard to make some stencils for letters and graphics that were meaningful to me.
The idea of reflecting your way of thinking on a wall is very appealing to me.
